To use your laptop in the Campus Center in Ely Hall complete the following instructions before you turn your laptop off.

In your room:

Windows 95, 98 & ME.

  1. Go to Start -> run. and type winipcfg.
  2. Select your network card from the pull-down menu.
  3. Hit the release button, then hit ok.
  4. Shutdown your laptop, unplug your network cord, and bring it with you to the Campus Center.

Windows 2000 & XP

  1. Go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt.
  2. At the prompt type "ipconfig /release" (without the quotes).
  3. Type exit.
  4. Shutdown your laptop, unplug your network cord, and bring it with you to the Campus Center.

In the Campus Center:
Windows 95, 98 & ME.
  1. Find a black data jack, plug your network cord into it and your laptop.
  2. Boot up the laptop.
  3. Once your computer is booted up, you should be able to browse the Internet.  If you can't, try the following steps.
    1. Go to Start -> run. and type winipcfg.
    2. Select your network card from the pull-down menu.
    3. Hit the release button, then the renew button.
    4. The IP address should be 207.159.x.x (where x is a number from 2 to 253)
    5. Hit ok, you should now be able browse the Internet.
  4. To go back to your room:
    1. Go to Start -> run. and type winipcfg.
    2. Select your network card from the pull-down menu.
    3. Hit the release button, then hit ok.
    4. Shutdown your laptop, unplug your network cord, and bring it with you to your room.

Windows 2000 & XP

    2. At the prompt type "ipconfig /release" (without the quotes).

    4. Shutdown your laptop, unplug your network cord, and bring it with you to your room.
