The vast resources of the
Internet (world wide web) are available to all WSC students living within
the campus residential halls.
Internet connections are made through a network interface card (NIC)
and do not require a modem. This does not tie up your phone line and
the network is active as long as your computer is on.
Your Residence Hall Internet installation is good for your entire stay
as a student in any residence hall on the campus of Westfield State
College.
Peer-to-Peer
The use of Peer-to-Peer file sharing protocols is not permitted anywhere on the Westfield State College network.
Please be respectful of your fellow users of the network by cooporating with this policy. Peer-to-Peer protocols use a very
large amount of bandwidth and can really slow down a network. This includes, but is not limited to, applications
such as LimeWire, Kazaa, WinMX, Ares, eDonkey clients (such as eMule), Direct Connect clients (such as DC++), and
BitTorrent clients (such as Azureus, uTorrent, BitComet, and others.) Please see our Peer-to-Peer policy for
information on consequences of offenses of this policy. All Peer-To-Peer protocols are prohibited, even if they are
not being used for copyright infringement . For more information, please see the FAQ page on Peer-to-Peer.
We recommend the following minimum specifications:
For PC's (IBM Compatible): Pentium III processor with 512M memory, 20G Hard drive, Microsoft Office 2003, Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
For Macintosh: G3 with 512M memory, 20G Hard drive, Microsoft Office 2004, OS 10.
E-mail
Each full-time day student has an e-mail address issued to them during
the Orientation session.
-E-mail address is first initial + last name + last four digits of your college-wide ID @wsc.ma.edu. Ex.
mdoe5678@wsc.ma.edu
Wireless Access:
Wireless access is currently available in select areas of Ely
(most of the Library main area, and the Campus Center Lounge), the
Dining Commons and Corner Cafe, as well as complete coverage of Bates
and Wilson Halls. More wireless is planned throughout the next few
semesters, so stay tuned for updates.
