We are happy to announce that the vendor for our network optimization device has finished a patch that appears to have fixed the issue that has prevented several students from connecting several Playstation 3 games (including Call of Duty 4 and the recent Guitar Hero game) to Sony's Playstation online service. We apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused.

The Scholar Ship is a globally recognized academic semester abroad program aboard a transformed passenger ship hosting both undergraduate and postgraduate students on semester-long voyages around the world. We are launching a new and exciting online environment for the campus, Westfield State's web portal. On March 25th, we will have a day of demonstrations open to the entire campus. Come and see what will be THE interface for all students, faculty and staff: access to all online resources (e-mail, web for faculty and students, VISTA, etc.), targeted communications, campus calendars and personalized content all available in one comprehensive location with single sign-on capability. Demonstrations will be repeated throughout the day in the Scanlon Banquet Hall from 900-1000am, 1030-1130am, 1230-130pm and 200-300pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

Information Technology will be replacing the e-mail servers with new hardware on Friday, October 19th from 6:00 p.m. until Saturday, October 20th at 6:00 a.m.
During this upgrade, e-mail access will be unavailable. All other systems will remain fully operational.

The Department of Information Technology has researched and discovered that the Electric Sheep Screen Savers appear as Peer-to-Peer activity on the WSC campus network. This application uses Bit Torrent, a peer-to-peer protocol, to update itself. To prevent being in violation of the WSC peer-to-peer policy, we highly recommend discontinuing the use of this program. The Movement Science Department is having its 2nd Annual Careers Night on September 27th, 6:00-7:30 at Scanlon Banquet Hall. We will have practitioners of the many different professions in the field of Physical Education Teacher Education, Health and Fitness, Sports Medicine and Athletic Training. Many of the practitioners are WSC Alumni. All students are welcome to attend.

The Department of Information Technology would like to remind everyone that the installation, for any purpose, or use of any peer-to-peer file sharing application (such as, but not limited to, KaZaA, FastTrack, Gnutella, BeatShare, Limeware, etc.) is not permitted on the Westfield State College network. In addition, any other network-based, nonacademic application that consumes the College's limited bandwidth may be limited or restricted. The Executive Director of Information Technology, or his/her designee, must approve the installation of any server or server-based application of the Westfield State College network. Anyone utilizing peer-to-peer file sharing is subject to the sanctions outlined in the peer-to-peer policy, including but not limited to, blocking of internet access for those who violate the policy. A copy of the entire peer-to-peer policy is available in the Students Affairs office, the Department of Information Technology (Wilson 102) or on the web at http://www.res.wsc.ma.edu/policies/resources.php under the Computing Resources Policy, Sections 2 and 3.

On Friday, July 27th at 3:00 p.m., a critical piece of hardware for the Residence Hall networks failed. The entire Resident Hall network will be without connectivity to the WSC network or the internet until the hardware is replaced. The Department of Information Technology is working diligently with the vendor to get the replacement parts shipped to us as soon as possible. This has no other effect on the rest of the campus network, it is isolated to the Residence Halls Only.
